Keeping Your Car Clean When You Have Kids

Keeping your car clean when you have kids may appear to be an impossible task. Children have a way of making a mess out of any space, from spilled juice boxes to more crumbs than they can count. However, there are a few pointers you can use to keep the mess to a minimum.

Here’s how to keep your car clean while driving with kids so that everyone (including yourself) is happy.

  • Spills must be cleaned up right away. When it comes to spills, the question isn’t so much if they’ll happen, but rather when. While cleaning up after a long day can be a pain, it’s critical to prevent the mess from occurring. Clean them up as soon as you can to avoid lingering odors and stains. This can be difficult with children, who are often eager to get out of the car and onto the next exciting activity but make it a priority.
  • Vacuuming should be done regularly. Eating and spending time in the car practically go hand in hand with any family on the go. Whether your children eat French fries or a full meal, they will almost certainly make a mess. Crumbs can bring in some nasty critters, in addition to being an annoyance. Those little pieces of debris can quickly build-up, so be sure to vacuum your car on a regular basis before it gets out of hand.
  • Make use of the garbage can. Given the number of wrappers, food scraps, and garbage that accumulates in a car, it’s only natural to include a trash can. If you don’t already have one, install a trash can, garbage bag, or another type of receptacle for your children to throw their trash in. It will help organize your child’s care routine and make cleanup a lot easier. You won’t have to carry a garbage bag out to your car every week or two, and cleanup will be simple every day.
  • Regularly clean all surfaces. Giving any and all surfaces a regular wipe down is an important tip for keeping your car clean with children. Sticky seats and smudged windows are the worst, so give them a thorough cleaning every now and then. Cleaning should be done with damp clothes, and drying should be done with a microfiber towel. It will significantly improve your driving experience.
  • Cleaning up your car can be a great learning experience. The car is a great place to start if you want to teach your child better cleaning habits. Rather than allowing a mess to occur and then cleaning it up yourself, spend the extra time teaching your children how to clean properly. They won’t always do it, but even something as simple as reminding them to put trash in the bin will help them understand the importance of doing so. It’s also crucial to instill good cleaning habits early in life; this way, they’ll be much more likely to stick with them throughout their lives.
